This is the first of my 2009 to 2011 palette knife series painted using only one flat knife. I wanted to capture the family dog's stature in side profile like a diagram in a textbook. It was remarkably difficult to get the dog to stay in one position or even capture a proper guide photo. I resorted to a combination of several photos to reference the desired pose.

Often times I experiment with different brush styles to achieve something new in my studies. I painted these apples with a method used by the impressionists to create flow by employing directional brush strokes all over the canvas.

I came back to painting from a very long break and was re-discovering the joy i find in working with simple techniques and found objects. This is my wife's favorite painting.
